KCSM invites listeners, jazz lovers, and the broader Bay Area community to gather at Press Club SF for Musings on Miles—a one-night-only evening celebrating the artistry, innovation, and enduring influence of Miles Davis through the reflections and memories of Bay Area jazz legend Sonny Buxton. Sonny will share personal stories, reflections, and musical insights inspired by Miles Davis: the innovator, the bandleader, the cultural force, and the mystery at the center of modern jazz. Together, Sonny and Greg will explore not only the music, but the atmosphere, creativity, and spirit that made Miles one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. The evening will also feature live performances from the Erik Jekabson Quintet and rising young trumpeter Max Ehrhardt, connecting the spirit of Miles Davis and the Bay Area jazz tradition to the next generation of musicians carrying the music forward today. Throughout the night, guests will experience live jazz, conversation, storytelling, and the unmistakable warmth of the KCSM community gathered together in one room.

Max Ehrhardt is a Oakland based trumpet player and educator dedicated to spreading music and creativity into the Bay-Area community. Growing up in programs like Oaktown Jazz Workshops and earning his undergraduate degree at the University of the Pacific under the instruction of Joe Mazzaferro, Max has accumulated a wealth of musical experience spanning multiple genres and styles.
Drawing influence from Hard Bop players such as Lee Morgan, Blue Mitchell, and Freddie Hubbard as well as Funk and Soul artists like Bill Withers and Earth, Wind, and Fire, Max shares his love of many different styles and genres of music.
One of Max’s projects is the creation of The Lakeshore Collective which represents the growing and inclusive community of Bay Area musicians. As an ever changing ensemble of artists and band members, they showcase the unique talents and collaborative personalities of all Bay-Area musicians.
The Oaktown Jazz Workshop Summer Fundraiser June 30, 2024 - we raised funds while having a great time honoring the program that’s so formative to our music paths! There’s still time to support this important children’s music program that fosters creativity through performance of jazz music. Please donate!
